Fuel Cell Trucks by QUANTRON & Ballard: Ready for Delivery
Ballard Power Systems and Quantron AG have progressed in their partnership since announcing their strategic cooperation in September 2021. Together, they have delivered their first fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), using Ballard's FCmove™ fuel cell modules integrated into Quantron vehicles. These FCEVs include a 44-ton heavy-duty truck and a light truck. Quantron's intelligent design fully integrates all fuel cell components into the frame structure of their FCEVs, allowing for standard bodybuilder build-up structures. This partnership aims to transform operational workflows in the transportation sector, providing efficient and zero-emission solutions.
The
collaboration, which reduced the overall process from feasibility study to
delivery to just 18 months, has brought Quantron's FCEVs to the market in
record time. These FCEVs offer longer ranges and shorter refueling times
compared to battery electric vehicles.
Hydrogen
has become increasingly important as a clean energy source in the commercial
vehicle sector, and Ballard, as one of the founding members of the Clean
Transportation Alliance, is actively promoting hydrogen mobility. European
customers have already received the first five FCEV units, with one unit
completing 15,000 km in daily operations during a trial.
The
partnership between Ballard and Quantron demonstrates the commitment to
accelerating the adoption of hydrogen mobility in the freight sector and
delivering high-performing fuel cell engines to the market. Michael Perschke,
CEO of Quantron AG, expressed pride in developing market-ready FCEV vehicles
and revealed an order and offer pipeline of up to 100 units.
Overall,
this partnership showcases the potential of fuel cell technology in the
transportation industry and the speed at which innovative solutions can be
brought to market through collaboration.
