Volocopter Wins Over Young Hearts With First Osaka & Hyogo Flight

Volocopter, a pioneer in urban air mobility (UAM), has completed a multi-day flight test campaign in Osaka and Amagasaki, Japan, with its crewed 2X aircraft. The campaign aimed to acclimate the crew, test communications tools, and refine flight procedures in preparation for the 2025 World Exposition, Osaka Kansai EXPO. The flights, co-hosted by Sumitomo Corporation, Volocopter's strategic partner and investor in Japan, were designed to simulate conditions expected during the EXPO and raise public awareness of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft in Japan.

The successful tests, conducted near the planned 2025 EXPO pavilion location, involved collaboration with local authorities and infrastructure owners, including the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau. Volocopter aims to transition from testing to commercial operations, with the VoloCity set to participate in the 2025 EXPO. Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura expressed optimism about the future of the industry, emphasizing the importance of regional cooperation. Volocopter's commitment to Japan includes grants for studies, feasibility assessments, and public showcases since 2018, positioning it as a frontrunner for UAM in the country.
